Nancy Lois McAlister Abbott, 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at her residence in Staunton.
She was born on November 25, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri. She later moved to Waynesville, NC in 1991 with her husband.
Nancy was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.
As a child, she was a member of the 4H club, which allowed her to explore her interests and learn valuable life skills. Later in life, she discovered her passion for writing songs. Her talent shone brightly through every piece she composed.
Nancy embraced the roles of wife and mother with unwavering love and dedication. She treasured the moments spent riding around in her Suburban with a van full of children – it brought her immense joy to see their smiling faces as they embarked on adventures together.
Family meant everything to Nancy, and the arrival of her grandchildren only added to her happiness. She loved them dearly and created countless memories filled with laughter and warmth. Teran Justice, Jacob Dinsmore, Natalie Abbott, and Nickolas Abbott were blessed with a grandmother who adored them unconditionally.
Nancy is also survived by her loving husband, Harold Wayne Abbott; her son, Jason W. Abbott; and her daughters, Elizabeth Abbott Justice and Patricia Dinsmore.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Gerald and Lois I. Brock McAlister and her brother, James Gray McAlister.
A graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
