Nancy Louise Simpson Davis, 85, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Augusta Health in Fishersville. Her life was marked by her zest for life, deep faith, and commitment to her family and community.

She was born on April 8, 1940, in Washington, D.C., to the late James Henry and Teresa Louise Tillett Simpson.

She attended high school at Saint Mary’s Academy in Alexandria, where she formed lifelong friendships. This was especially evident in the bond she shared with her girlfriends, who reunited for over twenty years on Kiawah Island in South Carolina. Known as the “Sisters of Kiawah,” this close-knit group cherished their annual week together, reminiscing about old times while creating new memories.

She was also a graduate of the College of William and Mary and she served for over twenty years with the United States Postal Service, retiring as the Postmaster for Mount Sidney, where she was not just an employee but a familiar face and a caring presence in the lives of many.

On November 23, 1968, Nancy married her beloved husband, Richard "Dick" Dale Davis, in a ceremony held at the Historic Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Fairfax. Their bond was a testament to love and partnership, as together they nurtured a life filled with shared passions and cherished moments. Among these were their yearly trips out west for snow skiing. It was an activity they looked forward to for over two decades.

Nancy was deeply involved in her faith community at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Staunton. Her commitment to her church was evident through her participation in various ministries, including Haiti Outreach, the Staunton Augusta Church Relief Association (SACRA), the Legion of Mary, Parish Life, and the Altar Guild. Nancy's heartfelt devotion to the church's Adoration Chapel, where she spent countless hours in quiet reflection and worship before the Blessed Sacrament, was a central aspect of her faith. Her life was an embodiment of service, prayer, and devotion, which inspired those around her.

Notably, Nancy also found peace and joy in nature; she loved bird watching, tending to her garden, and taking daily walks, reflecting her appreciation for the beauty of God's creation.

In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by her daughter, Jane Elizabeth Davis; her grandchildren, Justin Lee Hosey, Logan Park Snyder, Lola Grace Snyder, and Elizabeth Quinn Barton-Snyder; her brothers, James Robert, John William, Joseph Henry, and Donald Elgin Simpson; and her sister, Mary Teresa Simpson McKay.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Richard “Ace” Dale Simpson, Sr. and David “Booty” Anthony Simpson.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.

A funeral mass will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Staunton with the Reverend Matthias Lusembo officiating.
