Norma Jane (Bradley) Shipley, 94, widow of Robert Byron Shipley, passed away on December 17, 2021 at King’s Daughters Health and Rehab.
Mrs. Shipley was born on January 11, 1927, in Camden Wyoming, DE to Archie Webb and Lola (Gooden) Bradley.
She graduated from William Penn High School, New Castle Delaware, and the University of Delaware with a B.A. in Music. Mrs. Shipley was trained as a concert pianist,but evenually became a mother and homemaker. She later became a real estate broker for a company in Greenville, DE.
After moving from FL in 2013 to live with her daughter and granddaughter in Staunton, Mrs. Shipley joined St. John’s United Methodist Church. She loved reading the newspaper, novels, and solving sudoku puzzles. When she lived in Vero Beach, Florida, she volunteered at the community theater and was an avid gardener.
She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Nancy Jayne (Nowak) Insco; her grandchildren, Megan Leigh Insco, Matthew Scott Insco, and Meredith Alexis Insco; and her great-grandchildren, Ezra & Elias Karlin.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Archie Merrill Bradley; her sisters, Mary Louise (Bradley) Diehl, Ruth Adele (Bradley) McCullough, and Noreen Ann Bradley; and her beloved dogs, Brandi and Chloe.
A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at St. John’s United Methodist Church by Pastor Chuck Cole. Burial will follow at Thornrose Cemetery. A fellowship reception will follow at the church.
