Norval Gole Johnston II, 89, of Martinsburg, WV, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 29, 2025. He was a resident of The Legacy at North Augusta in Staunton, VA.
He was born on August 29, 1936, in Kearneysville, West Virginia, to the late Norval Gole Johnston Sr. and Margie Virginia (Stanley) Johnston. He is preceded in death by his wife of fifty-eight years, Patricia Ann Johnston, in 2020.
Norval and Patricia lived in Big Flats, New York for thirty-four years. He retired from Corning, Inc., in 1998, after an extensive career in product engineering and corporate management. He was a graduate of Shepherd College (now University) in 1957 with a B.S. degree in chemistry and was a graduate of Shepherdstown (WV) High School in 1953. He was an Elder of Big Flats Presbyterian Church. He served on the Board of Directors for the Big Flats Lions Club, as Secretary and later as President. He received the Lions Club Citizen of the Year Award in 2003.
After relocating back to Martinsburg, West Virginia in 2003, Norval was an Elder of Martinsburg First Presbyterian Church and later served as the Treasurer and on the Board of Trustees. He also was the Secretary for the Martinsburg Lions Club.
Norval was an avid sports fan for many years, cheering on the West Virginia Mountaineers, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Washington Commanders.
Norval is survived by his loving wife, Althea Vickers Miller-Johnston (married 2021); two sons, Norval G. Johnston III of Fishersville, VA and Stephen C. Johnston of Martinsburg, WV; two grandchildren, Nathan A. Johnston and Kendra K. Johnston of Fishersville, VA; two stepsons, William N. Miller (Lee Adams) of Midlothian, VA and Robert A. Miller (Debbie) of Richmond, VA; and three step grandchildren: Madison N. Miller, Abigail V. Miller, and Mathilde S. Miller.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Rosedale Funeral Home in Martinsburg, West Virginia with Reverend John Cushwa officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM.
A private interment will follow for immediate family at Elmwood Cemetery in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Norval's name to a charity of your choice.
