Patricia G. Patterson

Patricia Ann Gordon Patterson, 82, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at her residence in Staunton.

She was born on January 27, 1944. In Cincinnati, Ohio to the late James Robert and Alice Virginia Fitzgerald Gordon.

Patricia earned her four-year degree from James Madison University, in Harrisonburg where she was a proud member of the final all-female graduating class before the university became fully coeducational.

She devoted many years of her life to education as a science teacher in the Augusta County School System. Throughout her career she taught at Fishersville Elementary School, Stewart Middle School, and Riverheads Elementary School. Patricia absolutely loved her students and cared deeply about each of them. She found great joy in watching them learn, grow, and succeed, and she took pride in helping shape the lives of so many young people in the community.

Patricia was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Waynesboro and remained active in the community through her involvement with the Retired Teachers Association of Augusta County. She was also a proud supporter of the Dolphin Research Center in Marathon, Florida.

Outside the classroom, Patricia found great joy in traveling the world with her husband. She was especially thankful for the good people of Montebello, a community that held a special place in her heart.

Patricia believed deeply in the power of education and the difference teachers make in the lives of their students. She would like to extend her heartfelt thanks to the many teachers and professionals of the Augusta County School System for their dedication and service.

Through her work, her kindness, and her passion for learning, Patricia truly left a large thumbprint on the world.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-two years, Glen Wilton Patterson, Jr.; her son, Eric Wayne Patterson and his wife, Allison Miller; her daughters, Heather Leigh Patterson and Wanda Houff Moloney; and her grandchildren, Salv and Adder Patterson, and Alicia Moloney.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
