Peggy Anne McDonald DeSarno, 77, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 8, 2025, at her residence in Staunton surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on February 21, 1948, to the late Lawrence Daniel and Blanche Teresa Gatewood McDonald.

She spent most of her childhood living in Maryland before eventually making her way to Staunton, the place she proudly called home for more than forty years until she was called home to be with Jesus.

She worked at Boyd’s Hairdressers in Staunton for over thirty years and later as a part-time receptionist at the Staunton School of Cosmetology, a job she truly loved.

Family was everything to her. She adored spoiling her grandchildren with food, comfort, and love - her grandchildren were her life. She cherished every moment spent with family and was known for her warm spirit and wonderful personality.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother whose love was shown most clearly in the everyday moments, through her daily phone calls, her humor, and the way she always put family first. She treasured picking up her grandchildren from school, cooking dinner while they played in the yard, and taking drives filled with laughter.

Christmas Eve was her favorite tradition, and she poured her heart into preparing meals that brought everyone together. She was known for her caring nature, her tendency to worry about those she loved, and her ability to find humor even in life’s small frustrations.

Her family will forever remember the warmth she brought to every gathering, the comfort of her voice on the phone, and the unwavering love she held for each of them. Her family takes comfort in knowing she is at peace and in the promise of God’s everlasting life.

She is survived by her sons, Vincent John DeSarno, Jr. and his wife, Amanda of Staunton and Matthew Lawrence DeSarno of Staunton; her daughter, Melissa Anne DeSarno Callison and her husband, Jimmy of Staunton; her brothers-in-law, Ralph DeSarno and his wife, Evelyn and Dominic DeSarno and his wife, Linda; her sister-in-law, Rose DeSarno; her sister, Jean Regina McDonald Shugars; her grandchildren, Benjamin Edward Callison, Nathan Lawrence DeSarno and his wife, Lindsey, Andrew Daniel Callison and his wife, Madison, Hannah Renee Shoemaker and her husband, Brandon, Bradley Matthew DeSarno; and her great-granddaughters, Roselyn Renee Shumaker and her husband, Brandon, Rylee Lynn Callison, and Lilianna Mae DeSarno. She is also survived by a special aunt, whom she cherished, Hope Clark and her husband, Don.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-five years, Vincent John DeSarno, Sr.; and her daughter-in-law, Chrystal Mae DeSarno.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, December 15, 2025, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton with Reverend Clay Sterrett officiating.

Interment will follow at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton.

Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew, Vincent, Jr., Nathan, and Bradley DeSarno, Andrew, Benjamin, and Jimmy Callison, and Ryan Shipe.
