Renate Dinkle, 82, of Staunton, passed away Monday, June 1, 2020 at Augusta Health.
She was born May 8, 1938 in Wiesbaden, Germany, a daughter of the late Albert Helmut and Marguerite (Geiger) Fritzsche.
Renate leaves behind four children, Margaret DeMarco, Donald Miller (deceased), Kenneth Miller, and Susan Fritzsche, and three grandchildren, Melissa and Samuel Hinch, and Olin Miller.
Though we all went our own ways, we all returned to Virginia in our own time, something she thought would never happen. Susan returned to live with her mom as she became more frail in the last year.
She was a Butcher at Reeds, and in our home, and on our farm. Cutting up our beef on the ping pong table. Freezing meat, canning vegetables, doing it all. She was a Cowgirl, loved horses and rode in the parades for the Fourth of July with her matching horse and attire. She was a great cook and was written up several times in the paper in her early years of being a housewife. She could make anything taste good. She was even awarded best recipe for her Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte in the JC Penney cookbook. She worked many years in the shoe department. She played Tennis twice a week and went regularly to the YMCA.
She volunteered for the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association. She served as a member of the Eastern Star, and was a long time member of the Eagles FOE 680 and Staunton Moose Lodge. She met regularly with her German Club for many years. She loved to dance and loved to joke.
