Richard Allman Allen, 85, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026, at his residence in Stuarts Draft.
He was born on October 17, 1940, in Nelson County to the late Roy Hall, Sr. and Flora May Smiley Allen.
Richard dedicated more than thirty years of service to Waynesboro Hospital, where he worked as a male attendant nursing supervisor. Following his years at the hospital, he started Allen Removal Services, working closely with Henry Funeral Home in Staunton, Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Home in Waynesboro and Charlton and Groome Funeral Home in Fishersville. Even as his health began to decline, he never lost his strong work ethic or desire to stay active. A dependable and familiar face at the funeral homes, he continued assisting with removals for as long as he was able, always wanting to lend a hand and be part of the work he cared deeply about. Sitting still simply was not in his nature.
He was a member of Mountain View Mennonite Church in Lyndhurst.
Outside of work, he found joy in hunting, attending auctions, and exploring yard sales. He enjoyed the simple things in life, especially spending time fishing and faithfully keeping up with the stock calendar each week. He was a hardworking and active man who took pride in staying busy and helping others. He was affectionately known to many as “Pee-Wee” and the “Undertaker”.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Mary Jane Byrd Allen; his daughter, Kimberly Lynn Allen Nelson and husband, Gary; his grandchildren, Brandon Allen and his wife, Sara, Amanda Allen, Steven Allen, Jennifer Allen and her wife, Amy, and Lauren Maddox and her husband, Jeremy; and numerous great-grandchildren.
His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his greatest joy. He treasured every moment he got to spend with each of them.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sons, Ronl Steven and Mark Anthony Allen; his brothers, Roy Hall, Sr., Russel “Bill” Wilson, Robert Kline, Carl Davis, Sr., and Marvin Lee Allen; and his sisters, Maxine Thelma Allen Loan, Emma Frances Allen Rankin, and Vera Mae Allen Fabig.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Mountain View Mennonite Church in Lyndhurst with Reverend Earl Monroe officiating.
Interment will be held at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton.
Henry Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
