Richard Andrew Samples, 89, husband of Lois Myrle (Crummett) Samples, of Stuarts Draft, died Monday, January 25, 2021, at his residence.
He was born November 6, 1931, in Churchville, a son of the late John W. and Hazel (Davis) Samples.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by VDOT with 31 years of service. Dick was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
He was an active member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon, Elder, Sunday school teacher, and was a member of the Men of the Church.
In addition to his wife, family members include two sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas Scott and Lisa Samples and Jeffrey W. and Connie Samples; a brother, Wilmer C. Samples of Florida; one sister, Nancy S. Hilbert of Staunton; two grandchildren, Morgan N. Coffey (Derek) and Amber Kight (Nick); and five great grandchildren, Reagan and Trenton Coffey and Layke, Fisher, and Wade Kight.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Norman L., Sunny B., and John F. Samples; and two sisters, Judith Collins and Fay S. Doome.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. John Craft. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
