Robert Allen Ramsey, 94, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024, in State College, Pennsylvania.
He was born on December 14, 1929, in Augusta County to the late Roy William and Wreatha Grimm Ramsey.
Robert’s education began at Beverly Manor High School where he graduated in 1947. He earned an accounting certificate from Dunsmore Business School in 1949 and then obtained a BS in Applied Science from the Richmond Professional Institute (College of William & Mary) in 1957.
Robert proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1954.
Robert’s career began as a chemist for the Commonwealth of Virginia Water Control Board. He then transitioned into a role as a development engineer for Western Electric in Allentown, Pennsylvania where he contributed to work on the first communication satellite-Telstar, which sparked a lifelong interest in computers. From there he moved into a Project Manager position at IBM with roles in Essex Junction, Vermont, San Jose, California and Manassas, Virginia.
He was a member of the Manassas Presbyterian Church and generously volunteered his time teaching seniors about computers at the Manassas Senior Center.
He is survived by his daughters, Karen Ramsey Powers (Gary), and Kimberley Ramsey Miller (Mark); his grandchildren, Michael David Powers (girlfriend Tracy Johnson), William Ramsey Miller (Katie), Kristina Wreatha Miller O’Hara (Jerry), and Lukas Mark Miller (Jane), and his great grandchildren, William Henry Miller, Ramsey Warren Miller, Kalliope Maria O’Hara, and Annie Maureen O’Hara. He is also survived by two sisters-in-laws, Bonnie Cash and Wendy Cash, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth Glenn Cash Ramsey and three brothers, Roy Lee Ramsey, Marshall William Ramsey, and Lew Wilson Ramsey.
The memorial service and burial are private.
