Ruben William Fisher, 95, widower of Dorothy Baker Fisher, went home with the Lord on Friday, July 22, 2022 at Augusta Health.
He was born on May 27, 1927 in a stone house in Greenville, Virginia to the late Roger Martin and Lillie Mae (Buchanan) Fisher.
Mr. Fisher served in the Army and was stationed in Germany as a guard patrolman during World War II. He was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a Sergeant E-8 in the Army Reserve until his retirement in 1992.
He was self-employed as a painter and owner of rental properties, coin laundries, and car washes. He enjoyed gardening, farming, traveling, fishing, hunting, and beekeeping. Mr. Fisher was a member of Linden Heights Baptist Church in Staunton. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #357 and a dual member of the Harrisonburg Aerie 4150 and Staunton Aerie 680 Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was the last member of his immediate family.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Denise Fisher; his brothers, Roger Fisher, Tommy Fisher and John Fisher; and three sisters, Lula Fox, Agnes Lotts, and Cecil Fisher.
He is survived by a son, Dennis Fisher, and wife, Jonalisa; a daughter, Sandra Fisher; two grandchildren, Hope Clatterbaugh and Michael Shane Clatterbaugh; three great-grandchildren, Samantha, Zachary, and Tyler Clatterbaugh; a great-great-grandchild, Jade A’Lea Bell; as well as numerous other family members.
A private graveside service was held on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens by Rev. Luke Smith.
