Sandra Dean Hicks Lancaster, 83, a beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2025, in Staunton.

A true force of nature, Sandra was the heart and soul of her family - the one who held everything and everyone together.

To her children, she was everything: a tireless taxi driver, a masterful chef, a meticulous scheduler, and the ever-reliable organizer who somehow made the impossible look easy. She made a house feel like a home, filled with warmth, laughter, and love.

Sandra’s devotion to her husband was unwavering. Their love was a quiet constant - deep, loyal, and enduring. She made it her mission in life to ensure he was cared for in every way, and she did so with generosity, strength, and unwavering love.

She also had a remarkable gift for friendship. Sandra found joy in lifting others up, and she never missed an opportunity to make those around her feel valued and seen. Whether through a small gesture or a conversation, she had a way of making people feel special.

Sandra’s legacy is one of selflessness and fierce devotion to the people she cared about. She leaves behind a family that is better because of her - stronger, more compassionate, and more connected.

She will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in the lives she touched and the love she gave so freely.

She is survived by her children, Edwin Lancaster (Susan) and Amy Lancaster; her grandchildren, Caroline and Jameson Lancaster; and numerous nieces & nephews.

In her honor, we invite you to take a moment connect with a friend, perform an act of kindness, or play chauffeur for someone who needs a little help.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Bonsack United Methodist Church (4493 Bonsack Rd. NE, Roanoke, Virginia 24012).

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Kids Soar (The Soar Foundation, 39812 Mission Boulevard Suite 203, Freemont, CA 94539) or www.kidsoar.org. Mom volunteered as one of their reading buddies and deeply believed in their mission. She felt that developing a child’s love of reading was one of the best ways to help a child learn and grow.
