Sharon Lee Vizachero, 74, of Churchville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Sharon, known to family and friends as Sherry, was born in Staunton, on June 30, 1950. She was the daughter of the late Charles Lewis Swearengin and Judith Madeline (Varner) King.

On December 9, 1966, Sharon married her beloved husband, Anthony Vizachero, in Hagerstown, Maryland, beginning a loving partnership that would last fifty-eight years.

Sharon graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Staunton in 1968. She and Anthony lived in Staunton until 1973, when they moved to Churchville, where they made their home for over fifty years. Sharon was a long-time member of St. James United Methodist Church in Churchville, where she found strength in her faith and joy in her church community.

She worked as a paraeducator at Buffalo Gap High School for twenty-six years, beginning in August 1999 and continuing until her passing. She cherished her work with students and teachers alike. She believed that her students were capable of doing great work regardless of the challenges they faced, and her dedication touched countless lives.

Beyond her work, Sharon treasured time spent with family and friends. She delighted in attending her nieces' and nephews' sporting events, FFA shows, and school activities, and enjoyed camping trips at Natural Chimneys and regular bus trips to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She faced gastrointestinal cancer with courage and grace for the past ten months and was deeply grateful for the compassionate care she received from Augusta Health, the UVA Cancer Center, and Gentiva Hospice. Throughout her illness, she was blessed by the devoted care and support of her nieces Carol Cash and Cindy Mawyer, and Jennifer and Mike Rexrode.

In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by two children, Vincent Eugene Vizachero and his wife, Kathryn Eleanor (Peters) Vizachero, and Angela Marie (Vizachero) Higgins and her husband, Michael Shannon Higgins; three grandchildren, Emilia Virginia Vizachero, Serafina Lucia Vizachero, and Lorenzo Antonio Vizachero; two sisters, Linda Carol (Swearengin) Townsend and her husband, Lynn Elwood Townsend Jr., and Judy Ann (Swearengin) Talley; three brothers, Larry Thomas King and his wife, Janet Elizabeth Roberts, James David King and his wife, Rhonda Sharon Calhoun, and Mack Wesley King and his wife, Sarah Beth Shuey; two aunts, Velda Isabelle Smith and Mary Frances Rexrode; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Brian Lewis Vizachero (1976–2021); her brother, Dennis Wayne King; her aunt, Mabel Geraldine Varner; and two uncles, James Franklin Varner and William Arthur Varner.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at St. James United Methodist Church in Churchville with Reverend Lester Kennedy officiating.

Interment will follow the service in Green Hill Cemetery in Churchville where she will be laid to rest beside her son, Brian Lewis Vizachero.

Serving as pallbearers will be Vincent Vizachero, Lorenzo Vizachero, Pete King, Mack King, Preston Woods, and Mike Rexrode. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry King, Travis Cash, and Brandon Cash.
