Susan Elizabeth Taylor Hagler, 75, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the Hospice of The Piedmont – Hospice House in Charlottesville.
She was born on September 25, 1949, in Xenia, Ohio to the late Alfred and Gertrude Taylor.
Susan graduated from Xenia High School in 1967 and went on to attend Central State University for a year. She dedicated more than thirty years of her career to Ohio Rehabilitation Services before retiring. She later continued serving her community by working part-time for the City of Xenia for eight years.
Susan will be remembered as a kind, thoughtful, and loving woman. She was a wonderful mother and an even more extraordinary grandmother. Her greatest joy was found in her grandsons, whom she cherished dearly. So strong was her love for them that she moved to Virginia to be closer to her two youngest grandsons.
She is survived by her daughter, Beth Irwin Dotson; her son, Garrett Irwin; her daughter-in-law, Janelle Irwin; her grandsons, Logan Dotson, and Alexander, and William Irwin; and her brother, Steven Taylor.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Garrett Taylor; and her sister, Ann Taylor Ring.
In keeping Susan’s wishes, her body was donated to science, a final act of generosity that reflected the way she lived her life.
There will be no formal service at this time. Her children will have a celebration of life in the spring, with an announcement to be shared in the newspaper when plans are finalized.
