Susan Kopac of Staunton, Va passed away peacefully at home after a short
Illness on April 20, 2021. Susan was 72 years old, born on December 25, 1948 to Michael and Helen Matis in Perth Amboy, NJ. She was raised in Perth Amboy, NJ and Edison, NJ. After her marriage to John Kopac, Susan also resided in Colts
Neck, NJ and Forked River, NJ prior to retiring to Staunton, Va in 2017.
Susan is predeceased by her father, Michael. She is survived by her husband, John of 52 years and Doreen Matis, sister of Westville, NJ. Susan is also survived by niece, Tara Skoldowski and husband Gary; sister-in-laws, Elizabeth Zoppo and Patricia Fisher, nieces Lisa Zoppo and Deborah Mulder and husband John; and grandniece, Audrey Zoppo.
Susan worked several years as a beautician in Plainfield, NJ and North Brunswick, NJ prior to pursuing her passion of painting. She attended Riverview Art School and Gallery, Island Heights, NJ to hone her skills. Focusing on her love of horses, Susan’s main subject of her art was race horses as well as family, friends and their pets. Her painting won various awards at local events—Pine Shore Art
Association and 26th Annual Christmas in Island Heights. Her love of horses led Susan to train as a dressage rider. Susan’s other interests were varied – gardening, crafts, power boating and sailing along Barnaget Bay.
All services will be private under the direction of Henry Funeral Home and
Cremation Center in Staunton, VA. Interment will take place at a later date.
