Listen to Obituary

Susie Lillian Entsminger McCulley, 92, wife of the late Everett Coleman McCulley, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at AVIVA Baldwin Park in Staunton.

She was born on July 1, 1933, in Rockbridge County to the late Charles Wilda, Sr. and Sadie Alice Clark Entsminger.
Susie married Everett of Collierstown on August 1, 1954. Susie was a cherished wife who supported her husband in his work as the Pastor of various Baptist churches. Their last congregation, which they started in March 1969 was at Shenandoah Baptist Church in Verona. In November 1969, while meeting in the Verona Union Building, thirteen members organized and adopted a resolution to become a church. On June 4, 1971, they purchased land at the present location and built the first building. In the summer of 1978, an additional building was added to house classrooms, a kitchen and a social hall.

Susie was known for her hospitality and her big monthly suppers. Not only church members but other neighbors and friends were welcomed. She greatly enjoyed being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed many winters spent in their home in Lakeland, Florida. Together with her husband and sometimes joined by Everett’s sister, as well as her own two sisters and their husbands, Susie traveled extensively. Their journeys included visits to Missouri to see Little House on the Prairie, trips to Lancaster County and many many times to Cypress Gardens Florida.

Pastor McCulley died in 2014, and Susie continued to live on her own with the assistance of many church members, especially Fred and Linda Botkin.

She is survived by her sons, Mark Eliot McCulley and his wife, Linda, of Lititz, Pennsylvania, and Paul Allen McCulley of Laguna Beach, California; her grandchildren, Marsha McCulley of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Jonathan McCulley and Kevin McCulley and his wife, Laura, of Coopersberg, Pennsylvania; her great-grandchildren, Everett (9), Lindsey (7), Oliver (4), Lucy (2), and Heidi (2 months); and her sister-in-law, Edith Entsminger of Lexington.

In addition to her husband and parents, Susie was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Alice McCulley; her brothers, Charles Entsminger, Jr., Jennings Entsminger, Nelson Entsminger, and Ashby Page Entsminger; and her sisters, Rosa Entsminger Hayslette and Cornelia Entsminger Conner.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Shenandoah Baptist Church in Verona with Pastor Dale Meyerhoeffer and Pastor Nathan Lipscomb officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
