Texas Johnny Balser, 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2023, at the Augusta Health Shenandoah House in Fishersville.
Born on November 18, 1937, in Rockbridge Baths, Texas was a son of the late Claude Bine and Sadie Virginia Sensabaugh Balser.
Throughout his life, Texas found joy in the simplicity of his work. As a janitor and groundskeeper with Charlie Obaugh Auto Group in Staunton, he took pride in ensuring that the surroundings were always neat and tidy.
But beyond his work, Texas had a love for the outdoors. Whether it was walking in nature or driving through the countryside, he found solace in the beauty that surrounded him.
Texas is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Ann Milstead Balser; his son, James Rodger Balser; his daughter, Brenda Sue Balser Hann; his grandchildren, Tiffany Neisser and Chris Balser, Audrinna Balser, and Lilyana Balser; his great-grandchildren, Raylen and Denny Long, Kiera Balser, and Kirstin Easter; his step-son, Pat Milstead; his sister, Mary Martha Balser Heintzleman; and his special caregiver, Andrew Phillips.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, David Floyd and Lacey Wilmer Balser.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton with the Reverend Warren Knott officiating.
