Thelma P. Simmons

Thelma Virginia Price Simmons, 86, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026, at Brookdale Senior Living in Staunton.

She was born on October 4, 1939, in Raphine to the late William Hunter, Sr. and Helen Frances Price Anderson.

Thelma possessed an extraordinary work ethic and built a career that spanned decades. She worked in the accounts payable department for the Bureau of National Affairs in Washington, D.C., for forty-eight years. A true workaholic, Thelma rarely seemed to slow down. In addition to her long-time career, she worked for I. Magnin & Co. for twenty-four years and Neiman Marcus for twenty-eight years, two legendary names in high-fashion luxury retail.

And through it all, Thelma did it in high heels.

A fashionista to her core, Thelma had an impeccable sense of style and took great pride in always looking her best. Her love of beautiful things extended beyond fashion to the world of fine art. She was an avid art lover and assembled an exquisite personal collection over the years, from the Wentworth Gallery in Tysons Corner, Virginia.

Despite her appreciation for the finer things in life, Thelma will be remembered for the way she treated others- a truly kind and generous person.

Thelma also had a well-known sweet tooth and especially loved Coca-Cola. Whether dressed to perfection in her high heels, admiring a favorite piece of artwork, enjoying something sweet, or simply spending time with those she cared about, Thelma lived life with her own unmistakable sense of style.

She is survived by her son, Scott Garth Simmons and his wife, Valorie; her daughter, Lisa Gail Simmons Fischer; her grandchildren, Christopher and Megan; and her six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Leo Martin Simmons; her brothers, William Hunter Price, Jr. and Lyle Thomas Price; and her sisters, Audrey Maxine Price Robertson and Mary Ann Price Clatterbaugh.
