Tommy Lee Swisher, 74, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024, at his residence in Waynesboro.
He was born on June 21, 1949, in Lexington to the late Thomas Irvin and Hilda Mary Hardbarger Swisher.
As a member of the Staunton Masonic Lodge No.13 A.F. & A.M., Tommy exemplified the values of brotherhood, integrity, and charity. His service also extended to the Shriners, where he was known for supporting their noble cause. He also was a part of the Hillbilly Clan where he was always ready to lend a hand and share a laugh. His journey through Freemasonry saw him actively involved with the Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons where he developed a deep understanding and practice of Masonic principles. He was a also a dedicated member of the Blue Ridge Moose Lodge #2135 and the Elliot's Knob Fraternal Order of the Eagles # 680.
He was an avid sports fan and found great joy in playing golf. He was also a lover of speed and enjoyed watching NASCAR where he was a steadfast supporter of Chevrolet. He was a loyal Baltimore Orioles fan and enjoyed cheering on his team. Above all, he was a devoted family man.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Moore Sheets Swisher; his son, Tommy Scott Swisher (Bethanee); his brother, Jerry Wayne Swisher; his stepchildren, Alicia Fitzgerald (Jody), Randall Mitts (Schlia) and Earl W. Mitts, Jr. (Pauline); his grandchildren, Cody Swisher (Raven), Taylor Wilcher (Tyler), Matt McCray (Danielle), Jessica McCray and her daughter, Breckyn, Nicholas Cole Smith, and numerous other grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Kaye Cole.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton with the Reverend Lee Thomas officiating.
Interment will follow at the Middle River Church of the Brethren in New Hope, with full Masonic rites.
The family would like to especially thank the staff of Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah especially Lauren and Joy; the doctors and nurses at Augusta Health, especially Dr. Daphne Knicely; and Katrina and the staff at the UVA Dialysis Clinic in Staunton.
