A graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Staunton, Tommy went on to receive his undergraduate degree from Bridgewater College and a master's degree from the University of Virginia.
Tommy’s teaching journey began at the Staunton Military Academy, where he served for fourteen years. He then briefly taught at John Lewis Middle School before returning to his high school alma mater, Robert E. Lee High School. Over the next twenty-two years, he became a well-loved and respected figure among students and faculty alike. His commitment to his students extended beyond the classroom, as he devoted summers to tutoring them at his home. Tommy's interests outside of education were varied; he was an avid fan of UVA sports, enjoyed spending time outdoors, and cherished invigorating walks in the sun. He was known for his kindness, humility, and consideration for others, making a lasting impression on all who knew him. As a member of the community, Tommy was truly a special person, beloved by many and remembered for the positive influence he had on so many lives.
