Wilford Roscoe Kirby, 94, went to be with his personal Savior on Saturday, March 4, 2023.
He was born on November 9, 1928, the son of the late Marshall and Emma Kirby and was preceded in death by his wife of forty-nine years, Phyllis, as well as four brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include four children, Kenneth, Marshall (Lisa), Robert (Vicki) and Brenda (Bob); ten grandchildren, Rachel Moser, Sara Sochor, Kristen Allison, Zachary Kirby, Henry Kirby, Tucker Kirby, Emma Himmel, Hughston Kirby, Tyler Kirby, and Molly Langston; twelve great-grandchildren; and his special friend, Hazel Jones.
Wilford Kirby was a man of the Greatest Generation. He had immense love and devotion to God, his country, and his family. He lived life to the fullest with admiration, respect, and generosity, and even in his final days, with dignity. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
He graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering degree and retired from VEPCO with thirty-six years of service. He served in the Army during WWII and as a Lieutenant in the United States Naval Reserves from 1959-1970. He was an active member of Saint John’s United Methodist Church and the Staunton Lion’s Club, where he earned several prestigious awards. He was active in coaching little league sports and the Boy Scouts.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Saint John’s United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2023. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens with military honors.
