William Francis Stevenson, 85, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026, and his wife, Joann Stevenson, 81, passed away just fifteen days later on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
William was born on August 4, 1941, in New York, a son of the late Samuel Chase and Lillian Theresa Svihovec Stevenson.
Jo Ann was born on November 3, 1944, in New York, a daughter of the late Peter Charles and Mafalda Porzio Palmieri.
Together, William and Joann built a life centered around family and friends. Their greatest joy was spending time with those they loved and creating memories together.
William and Joann shared a love of traveling and enjoyed seeing new places together. They especially enjoyed taking cruises and made many wonderful memories during their travels.
Joann especially loved cooking and baking for her family and friends. For her, preparing a meal was another way of showing her love and caring for those around her. In her spare time, she also enjoyed crocheting.
William and Joann will be remembered for the life they shared, the friendships they nurtured, and, most importantly, the love and devotion they had for their family.
Together they are survived by their son; two daughters, Colette Burroughs and her husband, James, and Janell Shank and her husband, Michael; six grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren; and William's sisters, Nancy Jacobs, Norma Pedersen, and Carla Dibona and her husband, Dominic.
In addition to their parents, William and Joann were preceded in death by a daughter, Deirdre Schartiger; a granddaughter, Angela Jordan; and William's sister, Linda Curlis.
Their passing within such a short time of one another brings profound sadness to those who knew and loved them, while offering an opportunity to remember and celebrate two lives that were so closely intertwined.
A Celebration of Life honoring William and Joann will be announced at a later date.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah House in Fishersville for their compassionate care and kindness. They would also like to extend a special thank-you to their loyal neighbors, whose friendship, support, and kindness throughout the years meant so much to them.
Memorial contributions may be made in William and Joann’s memory to Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah House (P.O. Box 909, Fishersville, VA 22939).
Henry Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
