William “Bill” Edward Scesny, Sr., 87, of Weyers Cave, VA and formerly of New Ipswich, NH, died peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Community in Harrisonburg.

He was born in Clinton, MA on June 8, 1937, the son of the late Walter “Whitey” Stanley and Mildred Joan O’Malley Scesny.

Bill grew up in Stow working on his family farm, Haycrest Dairy, and went into the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served from January 4, 1955 to December 17, 1958, as a member of C Company of the 8th Engineer Support Battalion.

After being honorably discharged from the military, Bill worked side by side with his father doing carpentry, married the love of his life, and eventually started his own construction company.

Bill is survived by the love of his life and his best friend, Diana Doris Bianchin Scesny and on June 25th, they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. He is also survived by his children, William Edward Scesny, Jr. and his wife, Lisa of Leominster, MA, Theresa Valente and her husband, Joseph of Waynesboro, VA, Rosemarie Scesny of Grottoes, VA, Edward Scesny of Clinton, MA, Joseph Scesny and his wife, Pamela of Douglas, GA, Alex Scesny of Leominster, MA, Diana “DJ” Scesny and her partner, Corey Dowd of Leominster, MA.

In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his siblings, Sr. Dorothy Scesny, PBVM, of Worcester, MA, Margaret Yesue and her husband, Albert of Bolton, MA, Alice Palmer of Cleavland, OH, Veronica Tucker and her husband, Steve of Leominster, MA.

Bill also leaves behind twenty-seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, he is preceded in death by his sons, Stanley and Kenneth Scesny; his brothers, Walter Scesny, Peter Scesny, and Thomas Scesny; his brother-in-law, Bill Palmer; and his sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Scesny, Joyce Fitzgerald, and Rose Agnew.

Bill was a wonderful husband and father. His door was always open to family and his children’s friends. If you came by at dinnertime, you were to sit and have dinner with the family. He handed down the carpentry trade to his six sons. To his daughters, he left his work ethic. He had a strong faith in his religion and his family is comforted that he has gone home to his Father in Heaven where they will be with him one day.

A memorial mass and inurnment at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon will be held at a later date.
