William Deahl Wine, 85, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Brookdale Senior Living in Staunton.
He was born on May 7, 1940, in Augusta County, to the late Kenneth Lanier and Mary Juanita Deahl Wine.
William was a proud graduate of Middle River High School. On July 25, 1959, he married the love of his life, Joan Shreckhise.
He was an Eagle Scout in his youth and later served as a Scout leader with Troop 52 for many years. He built a lifelong career in construction, founding Fort Construction in 1989. As founder, owner, and president, he led the company until his retirement in 2020.
After retiring, William spent many hours on his sheep farm, often with his loyal dog, Duke, by his side. He especially enjoyed spending time in his woodworking shop.
He was a lifelong member of Mt. Pisgah Church in Mt. Sidney, where he taught Sunday School for over forty years.
He is survived by his wife, Joan King Shreckhise Wine; his son, Jeffrey Deahl Wine and his wife, Ellie; his daughter, Lori Ann Wine Cox and her husband, Doug; his grandchildren, Seth Cox and Kayla, Chase Wine and Brooke, Clint Cox and Megan, Damian Fink and Angie, and Devon Fridley; his great-grandchildren, Carter, Drake, and Bryson Fink, Lance and Landon Fridley, Sadie and Cade Wine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Jack Harper Wine; his daughter-in-law, Cindy Wine; and his brothers-in-law, John Brook and Richard F. Shreckhise.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Mt. Pisgah Church in Mt. Sidney with Reverend C. Edward “Ed” Pruitt officiating.
