Wilma Moats Harlow, 83, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
She was born on May 22, 1940, in McDowell to the late James Floyd and Mabel Vanlear Varner Moats.
She worked at Crompton Shenandoah as a secretary for 24 years, then for 10 years at Clem & Co. She then continued her work as a secretary at Real Estate Plus and retired from the law firm of Timberlake, Smith, Thomas, and Moses. She was a member of Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church.
Wilma was known for her love of dancing with her husband on Saturday nights. She loved watching game shows, especially Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and Dancing with the Stars. She enjoyed reading books and puzzle books, always seeking to expand her knowledge. One of her greatest joys was found in the kitchen where she would make delicious meals and host family gatherings on Sunday. Among the cherished memories she leaves behind are the times she spent playing cards with her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her partner, Larry Simmons; her daughters, Sandra Kay Harlow McGovern (Steve) and Pam Harlow Kisamore (Steve); her sister, Corieta Lee Moats Smith; her grandchildren, Erin McGovern, Amber Polson and fiancé Donnie Polson and Shelby Kisamore and fiancé, Justin Taylor; her great-grandchildren, Corina Griffith, Kandice Griffith, Damien McGovern, Zane McGovern, Landon McGovern, and Toby Hunt; a brother-in-law, Colin Moyers; a sister-in-law, Sarah Moats; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Richard Lee Harlow, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Beulah Mary Simmons, Daisy Lee Ralston Hoover, Bonnie Marie Ralston Nuckoles, Mary Louise Moats Booth and Dorothy Pauline Moats Moyers, her brothers, Charles Milton Ralston, Sr., Allen Van Buren Ralston, Dennis Randolph Ralston, and Roger Lee Moats.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Henry Funeral Home with the Pastor Jeff Fike officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will immediately follow at Thornrose Cemetery.
Active pallbearers are Steve Kisamore, Doug Britt, Drew Britt, Justin Taylor,Tony Riley and Jeremy Cave.A special thanks to her caregiver, Lisa Burke, and the nurses at Augusta Health, and Hospice of the Shenandoah.
