Wilma Mae Clark Shuey, 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at her residence in Verona.
Born in Bath County on November 5, 1937, to the late William Grady and Alice "Maw" Genevieve Brinkley Clark, she lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, and service to others.
Wilma dedicated her professional life to Accounts Receivable with Smith's Transfer Corporation of Verona, where her attention to detail and commitment to excellence made a lasting impact. Beyond her career, she devoted herself to volunteering for many years with the Verona United Methodist Church Food Pantry and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank in Verona. Her compassionate spirit extended to the former Oak Hill Nursing Home in Staunton, where, for over two decades, she spent every Saturday providing comfort and companionship, becoming a beloved figure to residents and staff alike.
Wilma was known for her unwavering love and support for her friends and her "adopted" Oak Hill family. Her selflessness and deeply caring nature endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Alongside her volunteer work, she took immense joy in the simple act of caring for those around her, enriching the lives of her friends with her love and kindness.
She is survived by her brother, Paul Thomas Clark; her stepbrothers, Phillip and George Fleming; and her special friends and caregivers, Ronnie Cox and Connie Rohrer.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Wilson Gray and William Edward Clark; her sister, Blanche Louise Clark Madison; and her former husbands, Ronald Lee Powers, Harvey Curtis Hartigan, and Leslie "Skip" James Walker.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Verona United Methodist Church with the Reverends C. Edward "Ed" Pruitt and Sean Gundry officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 PM.
Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton.
